1000 BOOKS BEFORE KINDERGARTEN

1. Who can sign up? Any children (0-5 yrs. old) with their family/caregivers.

2. Can I really expect to read 1000 books to my child before Kindergarten? Yes, if you read 1 book a day for 3 years or 3 books a day for 1 year = 1,095 books.

3. Do I have to read books from the Baraboo Public Library? No, you can read books from anywhere.

4. Can I read the same story every night to my child. Can I count that book more than once? Yes, repetition is great for your child to learn sequencing and story order.

Information about the program itself:

Each child will receive a tote bag with a train ticket when they register. The train ticket will have 10 train cars on it. When the child has read 100 books the child and their responsible adult will come into the Youth Services Department and the child will receive a sticker. The adult will also be able to write down the child’s 10 favorite books on the back of each train ticket. The adult will be able to keep the completed train ticket.

Once the child completes 10 train tickets, they will have read 1000 books and have completed the program. For completing the program they get a gift certificate to a local bookstore and a small prize bag.
